  • 2 lbs beef stew meat, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 onions, finely sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until golden brown.
  2. Stir in minced garlic and ginger; cook until fragrant.
  3. Add pureed tomatoes and simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened.
  4. Incorporate garam masala, turmeric, chili powder, coriander, cumin, and cinnamon into the mixture; stir well.
  5. Add cubed beef stew meat; sear for about 5 minutes.
  6. Pour in enough water or broth to cover the beef; bring to a boil then reduce heat to low.
  7. Cover and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours until beef is tender.
  8. In the last few minutes of cooking, stir in plain yogurt gradually.
