  • 2 boneless beef chops or chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cups cooked Japanese short-grain rice
  • 1/2 cup shredded cabbage
  • Sliced green onion and toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the beef or chicken with salt and pepper.
  2. Dredge in flour, dip in beaten egg, and coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry each cutlet for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  4. For the tonkatsu sauce, whisk together ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, honey, Dijon mustard, and garlic powder until smooth.
